Eskişehir Technical University Students Achieve Major Success in TÜBİTAK 2242 Project Competitions

Sevilay MENGÜÇ, Göknil ŞİŞKO, and Buse ZEYBEK, students in the Industrial Engineering Department of Eskişehir Technical University (ESTÜ), Faculty of Engineering, achieved significant success in the TÜBİTAK 2242 University Student Research Project Competitions held as part of TEKNOFEST 2025, with a project they developed under the guidance of their advisor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet ALEGÖZ. The ESTÜ students placed third in the Food and Agriculture category with their project, "A Stochastic Programming Model for Design and Planning Decisions Under Uncertainty in Agricultural Supply Chains."

This project, which won the top prize among hundreds of applications across Turkey, examined an agricultural supply chain encompassing the production of flour from wheat. Planting alternatives and supply chain processes in different regions under various uncertainties, such as demand, yield, and price, were evaluated in detail. The multi-period, two-stage stochastic programming model developed for this purpose was tested in real-life scenarios using open-source data, successfully demonstrating its applicability.

The resulting calculation results offer important managerial implications for agricultural supply chain management. The ranking achieved in this prestigious competition, held as part of TEKNOFEST 2025, once again demonstrated the competence of ESTÜ students in interdisciplinary research and application-based projects.
